Curtains make your house look like a home as many would say. They enhance your space by bringing in your color theme and furniture together. Putting up a curtain is one of the oldest modes of covering the windows. It is versatile, functional and cheap and is often available in different varieties. But one should also be skilled in choosing the right kind of curtain to suit their purposes. A Curtain completes the overall appearance of the house. It also helps in the control of the ambience and flow of natural light in any particular room.
Often times, we want a curtain in our home for the purpose of privacy. We want to drape our windows to block in light, sometimes to enhance lighting, or to aid us in sleeping. Aside from aiding the flow of light, it also acts like insulation as it helps in absorbing the heat from the outside. If you want a curtain in your bedroom, then the purpose is most likely for privacy. But if you want it in your living room, choose a curtain that will increase the ambience of your room.
There are many fabrics for your curtains. Sheer Curtains is made from translucent material or fabric. It allows majority of light to come in through the fabric while retaining visibility through the curtain. During the day, most sheer fabrics allow people inside the house to see their outside view while preventing those outside from seeing the inside of the home. However, due to the loose weave of the fabric it does very little help when it comes to heat insulation.
Uncoated fabrics provide good heat insulation and light absorption. They consist of tightly woven fabric made of cotton or polyester. It is often opaque when viewed in ambient light. They provide good insulation due to its tightly woven fabric, but it is not thick enough to absorb light. Light is still visible even during day time.
When choosing the fabric for your curtains, choose those that are fire retardant. If you have children in your homes a flame or fire retardant curtain is advisable for safety purposes.
